A Mother-Daughter Story

Carmen has always had a gift for flowers. Maria saw it, named it, and in 2019 pushed her mom to turn it into something real. What started as a home-based business, arrangements designed and delivered out of their own kitchen, grew one order at a time, until 2023, when Surprises in Jax opened its first storefront on Beach Blvd here in Jacksonville.

Today, Carmen designs every arrangement by hand, working with premium, fresh-cut flowers and taking the time to get every detail right, from the color palette down to the ribbon. Maria is the vision behind the brand — the name, the aesthetic, and the belief that a flower shop could feel modern, personal, and a little unexpected.

That belief shows in what we make. Alongside classic bouquets, you'll find pieces you won't see at a typical Jacksonville flower shop — hand rose bouquets by the dozen, sculptural 3D rose hearts, flower boxes paired with hot air balloons, and acrylic keepsake boxes built to last well past the flowers themselves.
